The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Kyrgyzstan announced on Monday that the former Prime Minister Sooronbai Jeenbekov has won the presidential election.
The presidential elections were held on Oct. 15. 11 candidates took part in the competition and 1,697,868 voters casted their votes out of 3,140,434 elligible voters.
According to the CEC, Jeenbekov won the elections with 54.22 percent of the votes. The second place was taken by presidential candidate Omurbek Babanov, who scored 33.49 percent of votes.
58-year-old Jeenbekov served as Prime Minister since April 2016 until nomination as presidential candidate from Social Democratic Party of Kyrgyzstan (SDPK).
The term of the incumbent President Almazbek Atambayev ends on Dec. 1.
