FIFA has awarded China Central Television (CCTV) all media rights for the period of 2018-2022 in the Chinese mainland, the Chinese broadcaster announced on Wednesday.
According to the agreement with FIFA, CCTV, which began to broadcast the FIFA World Cup in 1978, owns the exclusive media rights to all FIFA events over the next five years, including the 2018 World Cup in Russia, the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the 2019 Women's World Cup in France and the 2021 Confederations Cup.
"The partnership shows our support for FIFA as well as our efforts to help raise the level of Chinese soccer," said CCTV's Deputy Editor-in-Chief Peng Jianming.
