Two people were shot dead near a college in the Manhattan borough of New York City on Wednesday, on the heels of Tuesday's truck terror attack that left eight dead, local media reported.
At around 8 a.m. local time, a 62-year-old man shot a 56-year-old woman in the chest before shooting himself in the head in Manhattan's East Village neighborhood, the WABC-TV said, citing police.
The two were rushed to a nearby hospital where they were later pronounced dead, the report said. The woman was shot as she was parking her CitiBike, according to witnesses.
Evan Ross Katz, an editor at internet and media company Mic, tweeted, "Heard gunshots on the way to work. Two bodies strewn across the concrete taken to the hospital moments later."
Police were investigating the suspected murder-suicide, and had yet to disclose their identities.
The shooting came a day after a Uzbek immigrant plowed a pickup truck down a busy bike path in Lower Manhattan, killing eight people and injuring 11 others in what officials called the deadliest terror attack on New York City since Sept. 11, 2001.
