The China-Vietnam Scholars Forum, co-sponsored by the National Institute for Global Strategy of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Institute of Chinese Studies of Vietnamese Academy of Social Sciences, opened under the theme of "Sino-Vietnamese Cooperation under the APEC Framework" on Wednesday.

More than 30 experts from China and Vietnam discussed topics such as China's new foreign policy after the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the current world and regional situations, Vietnam's foreign policy and Sino-Vietnamese cooperation under the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) framework.

Guo Weimin, deputy director of the China's State Council Information Office, said at the opening ceremony that such topics are of great importance, taken into account the context of the 19th National Congress of the CPC and the upcoming visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Vietnam.

As the forum provides a platform for high-level dialogue and exchanges between experts and scholars from both countries, Guo hoped that experts could actively offer advices and suggestions, reach consensus for the promotion of the all-round strategic cooperative partnership, and contribute wisdom to maintaining peace, stability and development in the Asia-Pacific region.

"I believe with joint efforts of all parties, the relations between China and Vietnam will be better in the future," Guo said.

Nguyen Quang Thuan, president of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, said in his speech that the Vietnam-China relations are entering a new phase of development. Hence, it requires new policies and measures to continue guiding the development of bilateral relations in a practical, healthy, effective and broader manner to strengthen the sharing of development experiences, to improve trade imbalance and to promote exchanges in various fields.

The Vietnamese Communist Party and the government have always respected and sincerely hoped to develop an all-round strategic cooperative partnership with China and support China's continued efforts to ensure regional and world peace, said Thuan.
