A tourist has apologized after video of him feeding bears at a drive-through wildlife zoo in Beijing sparked criticism online.
The man, surnamed Wu, apologized to authorities at Beijing Wildlife Park in Daxing district after he was caught on video Sunday throwing carrots to a group of bears from outside his car.
Park officials said Wu ignored large posted warnings and fed black and brown bears.
In the viral video clip taken by another tourist, Wu is seen standing next to his car and throwing what was later identified as carrots purchased at the park.
Next to the car, a large sign reads, "keep driving and do not exit your vehicle."
However, Wu figured this did not apply to him. "I didn't want to hurt the animals, I just wanted to feed them," Wu later told the press. "The bears were far from the car," he added.
Feeding animals is strictly forbidden in the drive-through zone, an employee said.
