The Chinese embassy in the U.S. on Tuesday said cooperation between China and the U.S. will lead to a win-win outcome, but confrontation will lead to mutual losses.
The remarks came after U.S. President Donald Trump released a new national security strategy, which deems China, like Russia, to be a "revisionist" power, determined to reshape the world according to its own ideals.
"How China and the U.S. see each other and how they define their bilateral relations not only concern the interests of their people but also the welfare of the international community," said the statement. "The U.S. claims to develop partnership with China on the one hand. On the other hand, it places China in opposition. It is not only inconsistent with the reality of the integration and interdependence of the interests of both countries, but also run counter to their cooperation efforts in bilateral and international spheres."
The Chinese embassy said China is willing to work with other countries in peace, including the U.S., on the basis of mutual respect. The U.S. should adapt to and accept China's development. It hopes that the U.S. will abandon the old zero-sum game thinking, move forward with China, seek common grounds while reserving differences and work together to promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
