A Maldivian president's envoy has said that the Maldivian side can protect Chinese people and institutions in Maldives.
Maldivian economic development minister Mohamed Saeed made the remarks Thursday when meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
Saeed briefed Wang on the current situation in Maldives, saying that the Maldivian government was committed to upholding the rule of law and order to guarantee stability.
Wang said the Chinese side believes that the Maldivian government and people can handle the current issues and restore order.
China will not interfere in Maldives' internal affairs, Wang said, noting that China supports the Maldivian government's attempts to settle differences with other parties through dialogue and consultation.
Wang called on the international community to play constructive role in the stability and development of Maldives and show respect for the country.
China has provided help to Maldives and China-Maldives cooperation benefits the Maldivian people, Wang said, expressing his hope that bilateral ties will have a healthy and steady future.
