Travel rush continued to recede on lunar New Year's Day with 3.89 million trips expected to be made Friday, according to the China Railway Corporation. [Special coverage]
Some 5.29 million railway journeys were made on New Year's eve, up 7.2 percent year on year. Some 7,485 passenger trains were put into operation. On the New Year's day, an additional 161 trains will be in service.
The lunar Year of Dog falls on Feb. 16. The Spring Festival travel rush, also known as chun yun, lasts from Feb. 1 to March 12.
