The yacht named Qingdao finished third in the Race 7 of the 2017-18 Clipper Round of the World Yacht Race on Friday, according to the Qingdao's sailing department.

Qingdao, led by German Skipper Chris Kobusch, was the second team to cross the line just off the coast of Sanya's Serenity Marina at 01:36:52 local time on Friday.

But as "Dare To Lead", which had an hour and 24 minute redress for going to the assistance of a competitor, finished just 19 minutes later, Qingdao was bumped to the third place.

"It's obviously disappointing, but it's just a part of ocean racing," Chris said.

"The third place should still keep us in the top two in the overall standings. I am pretty happy with how the team is sitting after seven races," Chris added.

Leaving the Whitsundays of Australia on Jan. 29 in the Race 7, Qingdao held the first place for six consecutive days. But three days before the end of the Race 7, PSP Logistics overtook the place and Chris and his team failed to make up the lost ground.

This is the second podium for Qingdao, which also finished third in Race 4 from Fremantle to Sydney in Australia.

Starting from Liverpool on August 20 last year, the race will finish in Liverpool this July after an incredible journey spanning more than 75,000 kilometers during which the 12 yachts will cover six oceans.

The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, held every two years, is the largest amateur yacht race in the world.
