Local authorities in northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region have signed deals with insurance firms to grant higher insurance coverage for good Samaritans.
The insurance coverage will rise to as high as 900,000 yuan (140,000 U.S. dollars) from the current 800,000 yuan for good Samaritans who are injured or killed after fighting against crime, voluntarily assisting in disaster rescue and relief work, or offering emergency assistance to people who are injured, ill, or in danger.
In 2016, Ningxia started to purchase accident insurance for good Samaritans in the region.
Currently, a total of 473 people have been given the insurance.
Ningxia said the move will help create a better social atmosphere for helping.
