Construction on the intercity railway linking Beijing and Xiongan New Area in Hebei province started Wednesday morning and is expected to be completed in 2020.
The line begins from Liying Railway Station in Beijing, passing through the capital's new airport in Daxing district and Hebei's Bazhou, and terminates at Xiongan Railway Station.
With an investment of 33.53 billion yuan, the railway has an overall length of 92.4 kilometers, with five stations along the line.
It will allow high-speed trains to run with a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour in the section from the new airport to Xiongan when it is put in use in 2020.
The section between Liying and the new airport will be put into use in September 2019 when the new airport is expected to open to traffic, with a design speed of 250 km/h.
After the new railway line comes into service, the travel time from Xiongan New Area to Beijing will be 30 minutes.
