"La Fille du Regiment," an opera by Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti, will be performed at the National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Beijing starting Wednesday.
"La Fille du Regiment" deals with the life and love of female protagonist Marie, who grew up in the army. The opera is known for being difficult to perform, as some parts require the tenor to hit nine high Cs within two minutes.
With newly-added remarks and props, the NCPA version, directed by Pier Francesco Maestrini, will not only be "in line with modern audience's aesthetic tastes, but also extraordinarily pleasing to the eye and ear," according to the NCPA website.
The opera will be performed from March 14 to 18.
