Wang began his speech by reviewing the work during this year's session of the CPPCC and paying tribute to the members of 12th CPPCC National Committee for their work over the past five years.
The CPPCC must take a clear stand on politics, he said, adding it should uphold the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and safeguard Xi Jinping's core status.
The chairman also urged CPPCC members to take a people-centered approach in performing their duties and to improve their capability in consultations.
As the CPPCC is not an organ of state power, it takes part in policies but not making policies, makes suggestions not decisions and conducts supervision not enforcement, he said, stressing that the political advisory body should play its role in consultations.
Wang was elected the chairman of the CPPCC on Wednesday.
The CPPCC is an important organ for multiparty cooperation and political consultation led by the CPC. It started the annual session on March 3.
