The Beijing municipal government will continue to give full support to the construction of the Xiongan New Area, North China's Hebei Province, by helping the new economic zone build schools, technology parks and rail links, as well as help its environmental protection, a city official said on Sunday.
Beijing will continue to coordinate with Hebei Province in revising and refining the overall planning of the Xiongan New Area, in the hope to forge the new area into a national model with high-quality development, the Xinhua News Agency reported, citing Tan Xuxiang, a deputy to the 13th National People's Congress and head of Beijing Municipal Commission of Development and Reform. Tan noted that the municipal government will support the preliminary work with the Xiongan New Area to build three new schools and one hospital and will help establish a branch of the Zhongguancun Science and Technology Park in the new economic zone.
Efforts will be made to advance railway links between Beijing and Xiongan and the construction of an expressway between the two cities, Tan said.
The municipal government will step up efforts to protect water resources at Baiyangdian in Xiongan, the largest lake in Hebei Province, according to Tan.
Tan said that the municipal government will encourage State-owned enterprises that are under the administration of Beijing to provide services to the Xiongan New Area in sectors including infrastructure construction and urban management.
The establishment of the Xiongan New Area was announced on April 1 in 2017 by the State Council, China's cabinet.
