Apple will team up with renowned Northwestern University to offer free training to computer science teachers across the U.S. city of Chicago, the mayor said on Wednesday.

Through this partnership, teachers in public schools of America's third biggest city will receive the training they need to effectively bring coding, computer science and problem solving into their classrooms, said Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

"When you combine the brainpower of Chicago Public Schools, Northwestern University and Apple, the possibilities are limitless," Emanuel said in a statement.

Chicago Public Schools, Apple and Northwestern University will establish a Center for Excellence at Lane Tech College Prep High School, where Apple unveiled on Tuesday its latest iPad, aiming at regaining ground in U.S. education with an enhanced but cheaper version.

The center will serve as a teaching and learning hub to introduce and train teachers in Apple's Everyone Can Code curriculum. Professors from Northwestern University will lead the sessions.
