Tesla launched three new models in the Chinese mainland at the Shanghai auto show on Monday.
It is the first time that Tesla is appearing at an auto show in China.
The three models are the Model S 85, Model S 85D, and Model S P85D. The latest Model S P85D can go from 0 to 100 kilometers (km) per hour in as little as 3.3 seconds, and could be driven as far as 480 km without charging.
Tesla has received a lot of attention since it entered the Chinese mainland market in 2014. But at the beginning of this year, there have been some negative news about the company such as declining sales and alleged layoffs in the country.
"We had the wrong perception [about sales in China]," Ricardo Reyes, vice president of Global Communications of Tesla, told the Global Times in an interview on April 14.
According to Reyes, Tesla's sales model is different from the conventional car sales models that have dealers, but Tesla will make the figures more accurate in the future.
In 2014, Wu Bixuan, former head of Tesla China, said she hoped China could contribute 30-35 percent of global sales. However, the Asia-Pacific region, including China, only accounted for 15 percent of global sales for 2014, Bloomberg reported in March.
