Shanghai General Motors will recall 6,425 2008-2010 Chevrolet Captiva cars imported to the Chinese mainland due to defective ignition locks, China's top quality watchdog said on Wednesday.
The recall, which will take effect from Sept. 30, 2015, involves Captiva manual transmission manufactured from Sept. 20, 2007 to Oct. 6, 2010, said the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.
Long-time use of the ignition lock could result in abrasion and pose potential safety hazards, the watchdog said.
Shanghai General Motors has offered to replace the defective parts free of charge.
