Xia Geng, vice governor of the Chinese province of Shandong, said in Vilnius,the capital city of Lithuania on Monday that the government of Shandong will strongly support enterprises of the Chinese coastal province to invest in Lithuania and conduct trade with their Lithuanian counterparts.
The visiting official, with a delegation of more than 50 people from different fields of business, said that enterprises in Shandong will be encouraged to purchase more goods from Lithuania, during the Lithuania-Shandong Business Forum in Vilnius.
Xia noted that Lithuania is a major trade partner of China in the Baltic region, and is an important gateway for China's enterprises to enter the European market.
He said the members of the delegation "have shown much interest in investing in Lithuania."
Under China's "One Belt, One Road" initiative, the fields of cooperation between China and Lithuania have been expanded, he noted.
According to Lithuanian Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Rolandas Krisciunas, "the Chinese partners from Shandong province will be assured that Lithuanians know the business language."
"Our partners from Shandong will see that here lives people who know what they are doing and are able to act in various economic sectors," Krisciunas said during the forum.
"Lithuania and Shandong have a promising future and vast opportunities for cooperation on economy, trade, personnel and cultural exchanges," Xia told Xinhua.
Within the framework cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European Countries (CEE) countries, Shandong has started comprehensive exchanges and cooperation with CEE countries which includes Lithuania, he added.
"Our visit to Lithuania has reached its goal as expected, and it has also laid a sound foundation for our pragmatic cooperation in the future," he said.
A memorandum of understanding for strengthening cooperation between small and medium-sized enterprises in Lithuania and Shandong was also signed during the forum.
