Malaysia welcomed China's participation, including investment, in Malaysia's transport projects, a senior official said on Thursday.
The Malaysian government has outlined a number of transport infrastructure to be built or improved in its latest five-year development plan, including railways and ports, according to Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai.
"We are looking forward to more Chinese investors," said Liow after visiting a train-making factory built by China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC). He also took a trial run on a train manufactured by the CRRC.
The factory, with a total investment of approximately 400 million ringgit (105 million U.S. dollars), began operation in April 2015 with an annual production capacity of 100 new carriages and intermediate overhaul and maintenance of 150 vehicles.
The CRRC factory had brought jobs and economic growth to the country, said Liow, adding that it had the potential to make Malaysia a development center for railway in Southeast Asia.
He said Malaysia was among the first countries to give positive response to China's "Belt and Road" initiative, which is aimed at reviving the ancient trade routes that span Asia, Africa and Europe.
