E-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holding launched a music division on Wednesday and appointed Gao Xiaosong and Song Ke - two Chinese musicians - as its CEOs, the company announced via a Weibo post.
Entertainment and culture are key parts of Alibaba's near-term strategy, according to Beijing-based news portal sina.com.cn. The company will develop its music business by joining with the country's major music-streaming services such as xiami.com and ttpod.com, sina.com.cn noted.
As significant composers and music producers, Gao and Song are expected to bring more innovative elements to Alibaba's music business, according to sina.com.cn.
