Tianjin Samsung Communication Technology Co (TSTC) announced on Tuesday that it will install new preloaded applications for one of its products, the SM-N9008S mobile phone, the People's Daily reported.
According to TSTC, the new apps will be released by the company at the end of July, and consumers will download the software from Samsung's after-sales service center starting August 1. All the new software can also be uninstalled, except for basic apps.
TSTC was sued by the Shanghai Consumer Council (SCC) after the latter launched a test on 10 of the company's mobile phones on July 1. The SCC found that none of the 44 preloaded apps in the SM-N9008S mobile phone could be uninstalled, the China Youth Daily reported on Tuesday.
Tang Jiansheng, deputy secretary-general of the SCC, was quoted by the People's Daily as saying that if TSTC can fulfill its commitments on August 1, the SCC will drop its action against the company.
Tang also noted that another company whose products were tested, Guangdong OPPO Mobile Telecommunications Corp, had submitted its software fixes to the SCC. However, Tang said, it was a "pity" that OPPO had not made a commitment to consumers.
In the SCC test, an OPPO product, the X9007 mobile phone, was found to have a serious problem when it came to software that could not be uninstalled. That situation applied to 47 out of 71 preloaded apps.
Tang said that if OPPO did not offer concrete solutions, the SCC would continue with its legal action against the company.
