Argentine Interior and Transport Minister Florencio Randazzo received Wednesday 25 brand new carriages from China for renovating a local railway line.
"In August the first trains will begin to operate," Randazzo said at the airport upon the arrival of the equipment, referring to the South Belgrano line, which connects the capital with the country's southeast.
"The dynamic tests were concluded with success and in August the service between Gonzalez Catan and the Buenos Aires station will begin to run with brand new trains," he added.
Carriages will be assembled in Argentina and gradually integrated in 90 days, with the whole line renewed by the end of the year, fulfilling the government's promise to provide most workers with a secure and comfortable access from the south to the metropolitan capital.
"To renew this line we have acquired 81 carriages. With these we will double the transport capacity of this line, which is used daily by 100,000 passengers," said the minister, adding that 28 stations on the line are being modernized.
"Today they are unloading 15,000 tons of rails and 20 of the latest generation of backhoes that we have acquired in order to recover the country's main cargo train, which will help to invigorate regional economies," concluded he.
On Friday, Randazzo welcomed executives from the China Machinery Engineering Corporation to Buenos Aires. The two sides have made progress on renewing the South American country's railways.
