China Unicom confirmed that it has eliminated mobile phone roaming charges across Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Province, China National Radio (CNR) reported late on Sunday.
The other two State-owned telecom carriers - China Mobile and China Telecom - have yet to follow suit.
China Unicom's move was taken in response to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's decision that starting from Saturday, roaming fees should be dropped in the region, which is to be increasingly integrated under a national plan.
