Macao's CPI eases to 4.76 pct in July

Macao's Composite CPI for July which reflects the impact of price changes on the general households, increased by 4.76 percent year-on-year to 106.13, down from the 4. 91 percent growth in June 2015, the city's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) reported Tuesday.

Data from DSEC indicated that the eased rise was still driven by higher rentals for dwellings and rising charges for eating out.

According to DSEC figure, In comparison with July 2014, notable increase was observed in the price index of Alcoholic Beverages & Tobacco (+28.11 percent), Housing & Fuels (+8.72 percent) and Health (+5.98 percent) on account of an increase in tobacco tax, as well as rising rentals for dwellings and higher charges for out- patient services. On the contrary, price index of Communication decreased by 0.76 percent.

The average Composite CPI for the first seven months of 2015 increased by 4.89 percent year-on-year, with the price index of Housing & Fuels, Health and Food & Non-Alcoholic Beverages rising by 10.07 percent, 5.72 percent and 5.11 percent respectively.
