China Mobile, the nation's largest telecom carrier by subscribers, said that it began to eliminate mobile phone roaming charges across the Jing-Jin-Ji region this month, the Xinhua News Agency reported on Wednesday.
There has been talk that the other two State-owned telecom carriers, smaller rival China Unicom and the third-largest carrier China Telecom, are doing likewise, but no official confirmation has been made.
China Mobile's move was taken in response to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's decision that mobile phone roaming fees should be eliminated in this region, which is included in the strategic development project of the coordination and integration among the Jing-Jin-Ji region, also known as Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei.
