More than 70 tourism and trade industry suppliers from Britain will go to China next week to promote tourism, VisitBritain said Thursday.
It will be the largest ever tourism mission to China, including hotels, retailers and tour operators, according VisitBritain, the British Tourist Authority.
They are going to attend the annual Destination Britain China event, which will be held in Beijing from November 23rd to 25th.
More than 7,000 business appointments are scheduled to take place during the three-day trade fair, giving more than 100 buyers from 14 cities across China, as well as Hong Kong, the chance to see the latest tourism offerings from across Britain.
"China is the world's largest outbound market and a huge tourism opportunity for Britain. We saw tourist numbers from China increase by 28 percent in the first six months of this year and have ambitions to double the spending from Chinese visitors to 1 billion pounds by 2020," said Patricia Yates, director of VisitBritain, who is leading the delegation.
According to Yates, Chinese visitors are already some of Britain's highest spending tourists, with an average spending of 2,688 pounds per visit.
The Destination Britain China event has been running since 2009.
