Authorities in Guangzhou, capital of South China's Guangdong Province, have no plans to levy a real estate tax on homeowners yet, domestic news portal cnstock.com reported on Tuesday, citing a local official.
Local governments have no authority to determine whether to collect real estate taxes but the central government does, Chen Rugui, executive vice mayor of Guangzhou, was quoted as saying at a regular press conference held by the government Tuesday.
The Guangzhou government has not received any notification from the central government that required "us to pilot or officially levy real estate taxes," said Chen.
