Xinjiang has become the second Chinese province or region to produce over 100 million cubic meters of natural gas in a single day, having done so for four consecutive days.
According to latest statistics from the northwestern region's four major gas producers, the daily output of Tarim oil field topped 83 million cubic meters from Friday to Monday, while the other three oil fields -- Karamay, Tuha and Tahe -- together produced 19 million cubic meters each day.
Shaanxi is the other province or region to pass the daily 100 million cubic meters milestone.
Boasting three major gas-rich basins -- Tarim, Junggar and Tuha, Xinjiang began developing its gas exploitation in 2004 after pipelines started bringing gas from there to China's east.
As well as strengthening China's natural gas industry, the increase in Xinjiang's output has also boosted clean energy use in the region. Natural gas consumption per capita in Xinjiang reached 240 cubic meters in 2014, which was 1.7 times the national average.
