China will encourage an overhaul of its consumer goods industry to meet the needs of increasingly picky buyers, according to a statement issued after a State Council executive meeting on Wednesday.
The government will waive unnecessary reviews and unreasonable charges for consumer goods producers, said the statement.
The government backs enterprises to spend more on designing and R&D to increase effective supply of consumer goods.
It promised a level playing field and asked enterprises to adopt more international standards.
Defective products should be strictly recalled and intellectual property right infringement will be severely punished, according to the statement.
The meeting was chaired by Premier Li Keqiang.
