Cheetah Mobile Inc, a Chinese mobile internet major, launched a short video application on Friday in a bid to leverage its huge user base to provide content.
The application named Toupai is a dedicated platform to integrate popular short videos made by online celebrities across the world.
Xu Ming, president of the Nasdaq-listed Cheetah Mobile, said that they see the huge potential in short video in the era of mobile internet. "And the video contents made by internet stars are the ones which enjoy great popularity among the rising number of mobile internet users," he said.
After securing leading positions in mobile tools and anti-virus software sector in the world, Cheetah Mobile wants to expand into a mobile content distribution platform and the new app Toupai is a start.
"In the future, we hope to embrace more different kinds of content and build a global content ecosystem by leveraging our existing resources," said Xu.
According to a recent financial report from Cheetah Mobile,the Beijing-based company has a monthly active user base of 651 million on its applications and 79.5 percent of them are from overseas markets.
