East China's Zhejiang Province is treating the improvement of its port infrastructure and operations as important steps in implementing the "One Belt, One Road" (B&R) initiative, said a press release sent to the Global Times by a government think tank, the Development Research Center of the State Council, on Monday.
The consolidation of the province's Ningbo Port and Zhoushan Port and improved customs facilitation helped Zhejiang Province in terms of port throughput and overall competitiveness, Zhejiang Vice Governor Sun Jingmiao said at a seminar organized by the government think tank, in Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang on Saturday.
Zhejiang is also working on seamless water traffic from the ocean to the Yangtze River, along which another economic belt is under development, according to Sun.
The China-proposed B&R initiative is a massive development plan aimed at promoting the connectivity of infrastructure.
At the Pingyang Port, industrial zones capable of employing 100,000 workers are being planned to process, store and utilize commodities such as grain and petrochemicals brought in by ships.
