A list of the eight strangest items ever sold on China's largest e-commerce platform Taobao has been trending on the country's social media, with many users adding their own offbeat purchases.

Among the list toppers include "breakup insurance" for U.S. pop superstar Taylor Swift and UK actor Tom Hiddleston for 1 yuan ($0.14) and "pills for stupid people" going for 9.99 yuan a bottle.

But not all are so whimsical. The list also includes the questionably legal, ranging from rent-a-boyfriend/girlfriend services and "fidelity tests" to "revenge" services and the skin-crawling "dead skin from the foot of a virgin" for around 2 yuan.

The list has garnered over 17 million page views on Sina Weibo as of press time.

Net users were quick to add their own unwise impulse buys.

"I paid 250 yuan for a 'key to heaven.'" But all I got was a wire in the shape of a key that could be plugged into electrical outlets," wrote Weibo user Jiukun.

Such novelty listings are not officially allowed on the platform, according to Lei Liang with parent company Alibaba Group, who oversees a team of around 50 people to monitor for and take down such items from the site.

His team has so far removed about 2.34 million such listings.

"Though some products look funny, but they might be against the law," Lei told the Qianjiang Evening News on Thursday.
