China will extend countervailing duties on U.S. poultry products for another five years, the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) said on Monday.
The new round of penalties will start on August 30 this year, the MOFCOM said in a statement posted on its website. The duties will range from 4 percent to 4.2 percent.
In 2010, China imposed countervailing duties on U.S. broiler chicken products for a period of five years. When that period ended, authorities conducted a review at the request of the Chinese broiler chicken industry.
The probe found out that if countervailing duties were terminated, subsidies on U.S. poultry products may continue or resume, damaging China's poultry industry.
In 2010, China imposed anti-dumping duties as high as 105.4 percent and countervailing duties of up to 30.3 percent on U.S. chicken products.
