China's Huawei Technologies Co launched its Mate 9 flagship devices in Shanghai on Monday, aiming at the top end of the smartphone market.
The launch comes just less than two weeks after Huawei's introduction of the premium smartphones in Munich, Germany where it introduced two flagship devices, the Huawei Mate 9 and Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Edition.
In addition to the two models that had just been released, Huawei on Monday also introduced a third smartphone, the Huawei Mate 9 Pro, which is exclusively for domestic consumers.
The Mate 9 Pro has a 5.5-inch curved screen, fueled by the Kirin 960 64-bit octa-core processor. It also has 20-megapixel and 12-megapixel cameras, along with a 4,000 mAh battery.
There are two variants of the Mate 9 Pro, with memory of 4 GB and 6 GB, which are priced at 4,699 yuan ($687) and 5,299 yuan, respectively.
The prices are higher than those for the regular Mate 9, which sells for at least 3,399 yuan in the domestic market, but much less than the version developed with Porsche Design, which is priced at 8,999 yuan.
The Mate 9 smartphones have a new artificial intelligence feature that can learn about its users' habits and automatically put the most frequently used apps in easy reach, which makes the phones easier to use and also more energy-efficient, according to Huawei.
The phone's battery lasts for almost two days of heavy usage and can fully recharge in 90 minutes, it said during the Munich launch.
