The Chinese mainland and Taiwan did 143.5 billion U.S. dollars' worth of trade in the first ten months of this year, down 6.1 percent year on year, said the Ministry of Commerce Wednesday.

From January to October, exports from the mainland to Taiwan totaled 32.57 billion U.S. dollars, a year-on-year drop of 12.6 percent, while imports from Taiwan stood at 110.93 billion dollars, down 4 percent, according to a ministry press release.

Taiwan is the mainland's seventh largest trade partner and sixth biggest import source.

Cross-Strait trade in October decreased 2.3 percent from the previous month, reaching 15.95 billion U.S. dollars, the data showed.

In the first ten months of this year, actual investment from Taiwan to the mainland increased 28.4 percent year on year to 2.98 billion U.S. dollars.
