The total sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) by China's BAIC Group surpassed 124,000 as of August, a company executive said Wednesday.
The company's sales of fully-electric vehicles surged to 52,000 in 2016 from just 698 in 2012, according to Zheng Gang, BAIC Group general manager.
The company has ranked first among domestic producers in terms of sales for four consecutive years and ranked fourth among global manufacturers last year. Its NEVs make up 21 percent of the domestic market.
The Beijing-based company is China's largest manufacturer of NEVs and has seven overseas research and development centers in the United States, Germany, Japan, Italy and Spain.
China has the world's largest NEV market in terms of production and sales.
