Major domestic e-commerce company JD.com said on Tuesday that it will establish a new logistics group focusing on smart supply chains across a wide range of industries.
Wang Zhenhui, senior vice president and head of fulfillment operations, will be CEO of JD Logistics, the new business group, the company said in an e-mail.
He will report directly to CEO Richard Liu Qiangdong.
JD Logistics will provide business partners with comprehensive supply chain solutions, including warehousing, transportation, delivery and after-sales service. It will offer logistics services, including smart and cross-border logistics, according to the e-mail.
Revenue last year rose 44 percent year-on-year to $37.5 billion, and annual active customer accounts increased 46 percent to 226.6 million in the 12 months ended December 31, 2016, according to its annual financial report released on March 2.
During last year's Singles' Day, the world's biggest online shopping event that falls every year on November 11, JD.com used innovative drone technology to speed deliveries to consumers in some of China's remote areas, enabling them to participate more fully in the event, according to the company's website.
The drones were developed internally.
