Zhengzhou city in central China's Henan Province is set to be dedicated player in connecting China with Europe through air cargo transport.
Henan Air Cargo Development Company signed a contract with Cargolux Airlines International S.A. on June 13, agreeing to provide more support to the Luxembourg company to develop cargo business in Zhengzhou Airport.
Henan Air Cargo Development Company will offer Cargolux a cargo terminal, office space and line maintenance facilities space in the airport, as part of the agreement.
The state-owned Henan company has purchased a 35 percent stake in Cargolux on January 2014. An air cargo route linking Zhengzhou to Luxembourg was opened in June 2014.
As of May 2017, the route has seen its total cargo throughput exceeding 220,000 tonnes.
The inland city of Zhengzhou has been playing a growing role in connecting China with Europe under the Belt and Road Initiative. It started rail freight services to Hamburg in 2013.
