A Chinese consortium led by China Gezhouba Group secured a contract to construct the Mambila hydroelectric power project in Nigeria worth $5.8 billion, said a statement on the company's website on Friday.

Located in Taraba, Nigeria, the project will have an installed capacity of 3,050 megawatts. It is scheduled to be completed in 72 months.

The project includes four dams and 700 kilometers of transmission lines, Nigeria Today reported.

The consortium involves Gezhouba, SINOHYDRO Corp and CGCOC Group, which hold 45 percent, 35 percent and 20 percent stakes in the project, respectively.
