China's new-energy technology company BYD said that it struck a deal over the weekend on the possible expansion of its SkyRail monorail to Alexandria, Egypt's second-largest city.
A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Alexandria Passenger Transportation Authority and BYD in Egypt. It is the first time the company's SkyRail has been under consideration in the African continent, BYD said in a statement e-mailed to the Global Times on Monday. The proposed project will be planned for the construction of a 128-kilometer track.
BYD said that compared with subways, SkyRail costs only one-fifth as much and takes only one-third as much construction time.
