Despite artificial intelligence is gaining traction on the Internet, there is still a huge talent shortfall in China in big data analysis, advanced manufacturing, digital marketing and other newly emerging positions. The lag in training experts in emerging technologies and innovations is severe, a report released by LinkedIn and Tsinghua University showed on Wednesday.
Categorized by positions held, more than 85 percent of digital experts in China are in positions related to product research and development while less than 5 percent work in deep analysis, advanced manufacturing, digital marketing and other positions, the report said.
The report also said that the distribution of digital talent in China shows a definite geographical distribution. Most experts in the field work in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen, where they have better career possibilities.
The distribution of such experts in line with the level of development of the digital economy. Such experts still tend to flow into first-tier cities with Shanghai and Shenzhen being the top two in terms of a talent influx.
The report shows that about 50 percent of digital experts work in basic industries such as the Internet, information communication and other segments, while others are in traditional industries such as manufacturing, finance and consumer goods.
