A Chinese company-backed hydropower project in mountainous areas in Laos is bringing benefits to local people by helping local economy grow, the People's Daily reported on Sunday.
The Southeast Asian country has abundant hydropower resources and 47 hydropower stations, and electricity has also become an important source of foreign exchange, the newspaper noted.
The Nam Phay hydropower station has reshaped the local economy by hiring local people, providing sustainable electricity supplies and helping economic growth.
The project was sponsored by Norinco International Corp of China with shareholders including Fame Star Development and Electricite du Laos, local newspaper the Vientiane Times reported in March 2014.
