A shipment of 658 pigs from France that arrived in China on Wednesday will soon be put to work - making sweet amour.

The China Southern Airlines flight from Paris arrived at Wuhan Tianhe International Airport on Wednesday after making the 11-hour trip.

The porcine guests are the first of four batches to be shipped for breeding, said their buyer, who works for a Xiangyang county livestock company.

The batch includes four breeds, the buyer explained, and all are known for their large litter sizes, fast growth rate and high proportions of meat.

In all the company ordered 1,200 of the breeding pigs from France, the company representative said.

The pigs flew in comfort - the cabin was re-outfitted to accommodate the 22 crates on board, where they could enjoy air conditioning.

They will spend 45 days in quarantine before being released to the breeding farm.
