Japanese electronics manufacturer Panasonic will start to mass produce batteries for electric motorcycles and low-speed electric cars at its lithium battery plant in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu Province, the Japan-based Nikkei Asian Review reported on Monday.
Panasonic will supply the batteries starting from 2018, and may supply them to Chinese enterprises, as demand for the batteries is rising in the country, according to the report. Panasonic used to mainly produce batteries for laptops, the report said.
Besides Panasonic, Nikkei reported that after acquiring Sony's battery operations on September 1, Murata Manufacturing would also invest 50 billion Japanese yen ($453 million) to bolster battery factories in Wuxi and Singapore.
