Shenzhen Kangtai Biological Products Co (Kangtai) on Monday announced it will modify its rules and cut the size of its board of directors to five members from seven, read a corporate filing to the Shenzhen Stock Exchange.
The changes are based on "the growth demand of the company," the filing said. But the shift is likely to be linked with the vaccine producer Changsheng Bio-technology, which has recently been involved in a scandal over faulty vaccines, according to a report released by jiemian.com on Monday.
One of the two members leaving Kangtai's board of directors is Ma Dongguang, who is also an independent director of Changsheng Bio-technology, the report said. Another is Yuan Liping, wife of Kangtai President Du Weimin.
Ma took the positions as independent director of Changsheng Bio-technology and Kangtai in 2015 and 2016, respectively. He also once worked in the Center for Food and Drug Inspection of the China Food and Drug Administration.
The arrest of 18 suspects at Changsheng Bio-technology is being sought on charges of involvement in producing and selling drugs of inferior quality, but Ma was not included on that list, the jiemian report said.
