The Shenzhen municipal government on Thursday demanded the immediate release of Meng Wanzhou, chief financial officer of Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., vowing to assist Shenzhen-based enterprises in safeguarding their legitimate rights and interests at home and abroad.
Meng was provisionally detained by the Canadian authorities on behalf of the United States of America, when she was transferring flights in Canada, Huawei said in a statement Thursday.
The municipal government has strongly urged the Canadian side to clarify the facts as soon as possible, and protect the lawful and legitimate rights and interests of the parties concerned.
On the same day, Chinese Foreign Ministry has also responded to this case, saying China has lodged solemn representations with Canada and the United States and demanded the immediate release.
