China firmly opposes the U.S. government's intensified crackdown on Huawei Technologies Co, and the nation will take all the necessary measures to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies, a spokesperson from China's Ministry of Commerce said on Thursday.
The comments came after the U.S. Commerce Department issued new rules on Monday to expand restrictions on Huawei by limiting its access to components produced by non-U.S. companies using American technology. It also added another 38 Huawei affiliates to its economic blacklist.
The spokesperson of China's Ministry of Commerce said in a statement published on the ministry's official website the U.S. side overgeneralizes the concept of national security and continuously misuses export control measures to crack down on and contain a single company from another country.
Such practices are a serious breach of free trade rules and pose a serious threat to the security of the global industrial chain supply chain, the spokesperson said, adding the welfare and interests of the people of all countries, including the United States, have been seriously damaged.
"The U.S. should immediately stop its wrongdoing, and China will take all necessary measures to resolutely safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises," the spokesperson said.
