The world's first offshore wind farm, using 16 MW turbines, finished installation in China on Wednesday and is expected to be put into operation soon, said its operator China Three Gorges Corporation.
This marks an important breakthrough for China's offshore wind power industry in terms of high-end equipment manufacturing capabilities and deep-sea offshore wind power construction capabilities, reaching an internationally leading level, it said.
Located in Fujian province, the 16-megawatt wind turbine is equipped with a 152-meter hub, equal to the height of a 52-storied building and has the world's longest impeller diameter of 252 meters and the lightest per megawatt weight, according to China Three Gorges Corporation.
