Starting September 26, China Eastern Airline will launch direct flights between Venice of Italy and East China's cosmopolitan Shanghai, according to the Consulate-General of the People's Republic of China in Milano, Italy.
The Venice-Shanghai flights will be conducted every Monday, Thursday and Saturday between the Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Venice Marco Polo International Airport.
Situated in northeast of Italy, Venice is known as an Italian economic center and a city of tourism. The city is also particularly familiar with Chinese people as the hometown of Marco Polo, the Italian merchant and explorer who introduced China to European centuries ago. This year marks the 700th anniversary of Marco Polo's death.
The new direct flights are expected to promote communications and exchanges between the two cities.
