China's e-commerce logistics index, an indicator of logistics operations in the e-commerce sector, registered 115 points in October, up 0.6 points from the previous month, according to the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing on Monday.

The sub-index tracking total business volume surged up to 133.7 points in October, hitting the highest record in almost five years, marking an increase of 2.5 points from September.

The figure tracking the business volume in rural areas also recorded a consecutive growth to 132.2 points, up 2.8 points from last month. Northeast China saw the biggest rebound, rising 7.2 points.

China’s online shopping festival, Double Eleven, started at the end of October. Due to a series of promotions launched by major e-commerce platforms, considerable online purchases have been made.

China’s parcel delivery sector grew during the promotion period. About 1.92 billion express packages were sent through the national post express from Oct 21 to 23, an increase of 48.7 percent year-on-year, according to the data from the State Post Bureau.

Travel consumption during the golden week holiday, from Oct 1 to 7, regional subsidy policies and other stimulus measures motivated the consumer market in October, bringing huge potential opportunities for e-commerce logistics, according to the China Logistics Information Center.

The large volumes of e-commerce purchases and delivery express may last for more than a month, and the e-commerce logistics index is expected to grow in November, the center added.
